@newssvr31.news.prodigy.com: How do you do it?? I'd LOVE to have a dog. I live in the city -NYC. But can't see walking four times per day out in the !**@! snow to give him bathroom breaks. :-( All I can say is you get used to it. Although I do have a concrete patch out back where Orson will pee, we do have to walk him 2 or 3 times a day, one of which includes a 30-60 minute session of running, swimming, or fetching every day. Frankly, it's not enough. When we lived closer to places to exercise him, he got 1-2 hours offleash every day. The sometimes PITA of walking a dog in the city is a small nuisance when compared with figuring out how to give the dog the exercise it needs to stay physically and mentally healthy. That's a much bigger challenge to meet than is getting used to walking in the cold and rain. Cate |

Lots of things you can do - get a breed of dog that is more into snoozing on the couch than going for long walks, decide that exercise is good for your soul and do what it takes to keep your dog entertained, hire a dog walker so you don't have to do the walking quite so frequently, take the dog to one of the off-leash dog parks in the area, etc. Suja |
