Default How to get rid of dog waste smell? Any suggestions

Hi folks,

I have 2 dogs, live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where we get very little rain.
I have a problem with the smell left by the dog's waste. The dogs are
trained to relieve themselves on a gravel area away from the house in our
walled in courtyard. I clean it up every couple of days but the smell
remains. We don't get enough rain here to really wash it away on a regular
basis. Normally the sun helps a lot since it dries the area very quickly. I
thought lime might help, but after reading the caution on the side of the
bag I decided against using it for now. I don't want to contaminate the
ground with any dangerous chemicals either. One other factor is the cost. I
don't want to spend a fortune on this.

Is lime safe to put down on the gravel? Or does anyone have any other
suggestions on this topic?

Thanks in advance.
Tom

Here's a concoction I have heard works great, but I have not used it myself:
2 tablespoons all fabric bleach
1 cup (original) Listerine mouth wash
2 tablespoons vinegar

Only problem is I can't remember if you use it full strength or put it in a
hose end sprayer. Sorry. Maybe someone else has used this recipe.

I have used the lime and it works very well......I
do not let the dogs get in it and it doesnt wash
away well off of concrete or rocks for that matter I
usually cover lime with dirt.....I live in
Albuquerque Tom and have experianced the same thing
as you well know no rain....
I dont think it would be considered ground
contamination really but helps freshen the soil... I
would not let my dogs get into it ....But I had
nieghbor that openly spinkeled it all over rocks and
dirt where her dogs played all the time and as far i
know she had no problems with her dogs.....
