I just waited for him to start peeing and stuck the cup in the stream. Of course you have to have a sink and some soap nearby when you use this method. My vet has a homemade urine-collector-thingie. They cut the bottom off a 1-gallon Clorox bottle, leaving about 2" of rim, and made a handle out of a wire hanger which they attached to the cut-off bottom. It wasn't very steady but it seems like a very handy way to deal with collecting urine from males (which, knock on wood, I haven't yet had to do). -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Fascism should more properly be called 'corporatism,' since it is the marriage of government and corporate power. -- Benito Mussolini |

Hi Mike , I always ask my vet for a computer print out of her assessment i.e the clinical history. I'm hearing impaired and its important I haven't missed anything . You can get diapers/disposable nappies for dogs that might help with the incontinence problem. These two vets sites will give you an idea of what could be wrong with her Fosters and Smith Veterinary http://www.peteducation.com./ Long Beach Animal Hospital http://www.lbah.com/ Alison Links to animal information websites http://mysite.freeserve.com/petinfolinks/ "Mike Gilmour" wrote in message ... We have a 14 years old Border Collie bitch as a pet. She is lively and appears in good health but drinks huge amounts of water and suffers from urine dribble incontinence. Our local vet put her on antibiotics which didn't help at all - we took her back again and got a highly technical medical explanation which was above our heads! so now we are no further ahead. Any help would be appreciated and she's a very well behaved dog and obviously doesn't like having her coat permanently soaked in urine. We've put tarpaulin over the carpet in one room during the night and have to mop up frequently. Any help on this very much appreciated. Mike |

Our local vet put her on antibiotics which didn't help at all - we took her back again and got a highly technical medical explanation which was above our heads! so now we are no further ahead. The serious problem here is excessive drinking, which can be caused by a variety of disorders and should be addressed. Also, excessive drinking can lead to very dilute urine, which reduces the antibiotic effects of urine in her bladder and entire urinary tract and can leave her more vulnerable to UTIs. Polydipsia can be caused by anything from Cushing's to kidney failure to a form of diabetes. I'd definitely get her checked out by a different veterinarian. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Fascism should more properly be called 'corporatism,' since it is the marriage of government and corporate power. -- Benito Mussolini We had an appointement with the vet this morning (UK) but had to cancel. My eldest son though he'd damaged his ankle last night whilst repairing his Land Rover so I spent a pleasant time till 3am in the local hospitals A&E ....all turned out okay though. Funny how life steps in... I'll rebook the appointment & post what is diagnosed. Thanks, Mike |
