My male pomeranian (approx. 2-3 yrs old) continues to urinate on my
furniture. I scold and take him to his mistake and then send him to an area of confinement, his room without access to the rest of the house. I've then sprayed the whole perimeter of the furniture with awful smelling aerosol, but nothing seems to deter him. Cleaning products don't deter him either. He's our only pet and we want to work through this. Has anyone else on this list had this problem with their dog? I could sure use any tried and successful answers. L PS He is very smart and I am certain he knows he's not supposed to be doing this because when I happen to catch him he immediately high-tails it to the proper area and urinates there instead. |

1.) Have him evaluated for a physical cause of incontinence.
2.) SATURATE all known marking areas with an enzyme based odor killer such as Nature's Miracle or Petzyme. 3.) Back to puppy basics of housetraining. Set up a schedule for TAKING him out on leash and assuring he takes care of nature's duties, praise, treat. Crate when not supervised. Close doors to unoccupied rooms or use baby gates. Keep him close to you so you notice that he's about to piddle.... he's on leash, leash is attached to you via a belt run through the leash handle. Jo Wolf Martinez, Georgia |

Sorry for the confusion. By "proper area" I meant out in our entryway,
where there is no carpeting or furniture and where he gone during the winter when it's not possible to take him outdoors. Now that the weather is slowly warming, he and I will be taking walks outside during the day and he will be in his fenced area more.
