"dejablues" wrote in message ... Yeast infection of the skin or ears? Dirty ears? In Bassets, with their long ears, I would look there first! Funghi, fleas, demodex... even one flea can make a sensitive dog scratch himself raw. Try to use sprays that kill bugs before they reach the skin rather than stuff that's given through mouth and such. Demodex is much more difficult to deal with, and bad smell is one of the symptoms - check with your vet. Particularly, don't use soaps and shampoons. Wash him in clay baths - sometimes there's clay available for human cosmetics (should be without parfumes and such) which is a bit expensive. There's nothing wrong with clay you dig somewhere out there, boil it, make warm slushy mud and wash him with it as if with soap solution. Do not rinse, let the muddy dog dry out in the sun, now that the weather is warm there's no need of a dryer, just brush out the dust when it dries. -- Ivana Marinkovic |"After the first four years Zagreb, Croatia | the dirt does not get any worse." They could be full, or impacted. Also, I see where someone else posted about the ears. I've got an 8 y.o. male Basset Hound, and his ears do not do well in the summer unless we constantly clean them (with Wet Ones and the Epi-Otic ear cleaning fluid/solution). Seriously... take him to the vet and voice your opinion about the odor. My Basset only smells bad when he's due for a bath!! -- ·.·´¨ ¨)) -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) Laurie ((¸¸.·´ ..·´ -:¦:- ((¸¸ ·.· *~*LiveLoveLaugh*~* Aloha!!!!! "Mule Fan" posted his query in 2003. Oh. Thanks, Mel. I just saw a Basset Hound question and was hoping that someone wouldn't give up a Basset because of their odor. -- ·.·´¨ ¨)) -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) Laurie ((¸¸.·´ ..·´ -:¦:- ((¸¸ ·.· *~*LiveLoveLaugh*~* Aloha!!!!!
