I have a question about scent and article training. Not for tracking
but for another hobby of ours. Last evening I was talking with Reznor's first trainer who has become a pretty good friend. I told her we hunt and collect indian arrowheads. We are surface hunters not diggers. Anyway she went on to ask if we used detector device, well no as these are flint. She said well you could teach one of your dogs, ie Blade would be perfect. So what types of books, videos etc would help teach this? What are the possibilities of a dog smelling untouched flint under the ground say 2"-4" and digging them up? Is that possible? I am sure it is, but I am not sure where to start. Any suggestions in regards to this would be greatly appreciated. She had a few but nothing that would advance us to outside untouched artifacts. I would think it is one thing to teach using arrowhead your hands had been all over for years and a whole other thing to teach in which no one has touched it for maybe 100+ years. Gwen |
