Our ever amazing beast has started eating grass every day. It has recently
been cut and is really fragrant. I heard dogs don't necessarily have to be ill to eat it, but this is all of the sudden behaviour for the last week. Everyday he goes out and eats some grass. He has gotten loose and been running with some cows, could he have "learned it." He doesn't seem ill. Just curious, Michelle Italy |

What my vet told me: If there are no worrisome symptoms like throwing up, a dog's eating grass in spring means the dog is enjoying the fresh green shoots just as we like eating fresh green asparagus. The all of a sudden behavior has to do with the season, not your dog's health. --Lia |

Just curious, Michelle Italy My dog eats the newly grown rye grass shoots when they first appear in the spring with great relish. He also enjoys fig leaves, wild mulberry leaves, the leaves and stems of some common weed here in Texas I don't know what it is, and once in a great while he'll take a slice of orange, very delicately remove the pulp and eat it with a contemplative look on his face. We don't think a thing of it, especially since he doesn't eat great quantities, he just seems to like the taste. I've tasted the fig leaves and mulberry leaves myself and don't see what's so great about them, but to each dog his own. Ella |
