Default Skin problems

I am dog sitting for a friend's 2 year old female Great Dane. Her skin
seems dry and flaky, and her hair is very thin in spots, to the point
where the pink of her skin is visible. Her mom thinks that it is
allergies (she has seasonal allergies, watery eyes, runny nose, et al.
but is not an itchy dog). While she is staying here with me, I've
started adding fish oil to her food, to see if that helps with her skin.
Is it possible that there is something else wrong that could manifest
itself in this manner?

Suja
