I have posted in this group and ya'll were kind enough to answer. I
really need some advice about my 11 year old long haired doxie. On 7-15-03 my vet did a Chem Profile 2 prior to dental work to take place on 8-14-03. He said the results looked good. We started her on Clavamox on 8-9-03 for a 14 day dosage. She came through the teeth cleaning and a few extractions ok, I was worried as she is taking Enalapril. About 2 weeks ago she started having to go out side to urinate anywhere from 1 to 3AM. Thats seems to have stopped for the most part, if she had any kind of uninary track infection, maybe the antibotic cleared it up. The thing is, she is sleeping a lot, she no longer wants to sit in our laps, doesnt care about going outside like she used to. She spends most of her time in a tile floor bathroom or a favotite spot under a small table, sleeping. We know that she has arthritis and we have her on a liquid glusosamine complex. She has been off and on Ethogesic but that didnt seem to help the limp in her right leg. I cant tell if she is in pain or not, we have to lift her on and off the porch as she can no longer get up or down on her own.It doesnt seem to hurt her to be lifted around. The vet said if we could keep her off the Ethogesic, if the glusosamine worked, she would be better off. We have her on the chicken, Hills Science diet for senior dogs.. Now she doesnt seem to care much for it..She was on another prescription canned food that she like a lot better, liver flavored, but it had whole flax seeds in it and it seems to give her a tummy ache.Intestinal gas maybe? Is she sick, bored? Our 13 yr old Doxie that we had, died in April of '01, they were companions to each other. My dog also pants a lot even in the winter time but doesnt have all the signs of Cushing disease. My vet doesnt seem to be too concerned, however she is sleeping a lot more than when her saw her on Aug. 14th. I know this is a long post and I apologize but I am worried about this little 13 pound family member. I would appreciate any all all replies.I need some intelligent questions to ask my vet. Thank, Lea |
