Need some advice. I have two male Australian Shepherds (one is 7
years old and one is 5 years old). Both were crate trained and have always slept in crates out in a separate outbuilding (barn) that served as a kennel. We moved to a new home that does not have an outbuilding and the dogs' crates are now in the house. My problem is when we put both dogs in their crate, my 5 year old now barks for 20 to 30 minutes straight, then settles down to sleep. Like most Aussies, he just wants to be with us. He then wakes up between 5:30 to 6:15 AM and begins to bark. He's obviously looking for us to get up as we feed them in the morning first thing. The 7 year old Aussie is fine, no issues with him. Previously, when they were in the barn, neither dog barked when we put them in their crates. Any suggestions on how to stop the barking at night and get him to "sleep in" in the mornings (at least another 1/2 hour)? |
