Default Pom with herniated disc

Our Vet dx'd my 5lb Pom with a herniated disc Thursday.
He has put her on Prednisone and told me not to give her pain med while she is
on the Prednisone.

She is still having some really nasty episodes as she has only been on the meds
for a couple days. Last night, she was squealing and in agony for a long time.
I couldn't get her comfortable. Everytime she eased up, the pain would start
again within a couple minutes. After about half hour, I couldn't stand it any
more and gave her infant IB Profen drops, which is what I was giving her before
Vet visit. She is such a tiny thing and the pain makes her breathing so fast,
she really scares me.

Does any one know what I can do for her to ease the pain until the treatment
works?

Dogs should only ever be given aspirin...never Tylenol or ibuprofen. If you
have concerns with aspirin, you might use white willow bark instead. It's
what aspirin was originally derived from. It's safe and it works well.

I had a young GSD who herniated a disc in his neck. Following a short
course of prednisone, to reduce the inflammation, I took him for acupuncture
to ease his pain. He had two treatments and has never had a recurrence. I
do give him glucosamine to support joint function, at the request of his
vet, but otherwise, he's back to normal.

Ibuprofen is not recommended for use in dogs or cats due to the risk of
gastrointestinal hemorrhage and kidney failure, even after just a few doses.

Stop and call your vet. I'm sure that even on the weekend you can find one
who answers after hours pages.
