Default My sweetie is in pain.

My 7 years old Chihuahua has swollen anal glands again. The vet will not be
able to see him until early next week. In the meantime I am giving him a
baby aspirin. He still is having a lot of pain. I would like to know if
Preparation H is put on his anal glands would that help the swelling go
down? I don't want to try this if this is going to harm anything. What else
can I do to help releive his pain besides comforting him with love? The vet
was too busy to come to the phone.

If the glands are not infected a groomer can express them and
teach you what to do.

Load shockwave and take a look at this!

......I wouldn't use Preparation H until you know it will not hurt your dog.
Many small dogs cannot tolerate things that larger dogs can. Besides that,
it is really for the itching and burning from hemmohroids not from swollen
anal glands. In the meantime you can put a compress on his rear, using a
warm wet cloth. This will not only be soothing, but may help the glands
semi-express themselves as the dog relaxes. Keep a pan of the warm water
nearby and keep rinsing the compress in it to keep the temp up. I'd do this
a couple of times a day for as long as the dog will sit still for it. Most
dogs appreciate compresses, once they relax into it.

I'd also look at adding some fiber to your dog's food.
