I have made a reservation at a Townplace Suites by Marriott ... I
found their hotel listed as a place that allowed pets. The person I
originally spoke to said that there was a nonrefundable deposit of
$100 ... but I was sure she was mistaken, since I have paid a
REFUNDABLE deposit at other hotels (and had it returned after the room
was checked). But just to be sure, I checked with Marriott's
headquarters, and good grief, the room is available for just over $50,
but add $100 for our little non-barking, non-shedding dog!

My wife and I have had this conversation with hotel staff a few
times. I wish that they would learn to use the word "deposit"
correctly.

I'm fairly understanding of this. If they are going to specially
clean the room, perhaps with an outside service, that $100 starts
to sound reasonable. If they also provide special pet amenities
it makes even more sense.

For one day, such a charge probably does *not* make sense for you,
but many of the places where such charges are made are geared
toward long-term stays. If you were there for a couple months,
that $100 would start to disappear into the noise.

Now for my whine...places that charge a high fee _per_dog_. If
the fee is for cleaning, the number of dogs really isn't important.
