Default Is our NG getting too old...

....for trick or treating?

I was just scanning the last few days of headers, and I realized that I'm
seeing *nothing* about cute dog costumes, puppy hallowe'en parties, or the
latest "best" treat for pooch's hallowe'en bucket.

October has always featured such posts: what's happened this year?!?!

Has everyone been duped by the retailer-rushers and forgotten about
hallowe'en and gone straight to Christmas?

Or was everyone so organized that the planning and discussions occurred when
I wasn't looking?

Or (doG forbid!) have all of our pooches decided they are to old and
dignified for dressing up anymore?

Don't blame us. We've never done dog (or people for that matter)
costumes. If we were though, this year would be a particularly bad one,
because there are some huge deadlines looming for both of us, and we're
working our tails off, in between feeling guilty about not spending
enough time with the dogs.

I don't think I've ever noticed such posts before, now that you mention it,
and I've been around since 1999.

But maybe that's because Orson's first time in a costume was his last. (He
was a jester. The hat stayed on just long enough for a Polaroid.) We're
just not a dog-in-costume family. If I had a little dog I'd probably
torture it with daily clothes and costumes and even feature it on a web
site.

And speaking of holidays, I saw my first Christmas commercial yesterday.
I've been laid up for a few days and watching daytime tv, which explains
the high volume of home shopping network ads. One of those had a jingling
bells background sound, and the colors of the ad were red and white. But it
didn't mention Christmas or 'holidays' or anything that overt.

I am going to my first Halloween party this weekend, and was wondering what
I was to wear.
I need something quick and simple. I thought of dressing up as a cowgirl,
and making a horseshoe shaped bruise on my face, but that seems too dumb.
HELP! I have only a few days to come up with a beauty.

I know that we'll be too busy for much of anything, since my husband
is leaving early next week for a two-week trip.
We had talked about attending a costume party w/ some friends, and
my husband had what I thought to be a FABULOUS idea for a costume.
He said that he was going to dress as Shrek, and dye the pink bunny
ears, we'd bought for the dogs years ago, brown so Coda could go
as Donkey. :-)
I told him if he did that, then I would dress as Little Red Riding Hood
(I have a costume from several years ago) and Bodhi, with a kercheif (yeah,
like that's going to stay on!!) could be the Big Bad Wolf.

You can have quick. You can have simple. And you can have not too
dumb. I'm at a loss as to how you can have all 3 at once.

My favorite for quick and simple is black leotards and tights with tea
bags safety pinned all over. This falls into the superiorly too dumb
category as it doesn't mean anything, but it is eye catching, and you
probably have the materials in your house.
