We've talked about the silly pet names we give our dogs. But does anybody
besides me also have silly names for their body parts? I realized today when I inadvertently closed MacKenzie's head in the refrigerator that heads are "boggins." As in, "Aw, sweetie, I'm sorry I bonked your boggin!" And all head mishaps are "bonks." Teeth are "toofers." All dog rear ends are "puppy butts." Skinny dog legs are "chicken legs." Nails are "toesers." And all puppy faces are to be eaten with spoons. I use teefers & feetses (plural of feet since dogs do have 4 feet) but then I use those words with little kids too. When I refer to my dogs' bodies its usually to make fun. For example, alot of people talk about how cute my Min. Dachshund is then ask what breed she is, or ask me to confirm their correct assessment, to which I reply: "Pebbles is a pot-bellied pig dressed up in a doggy costume." I don't make fun of Fancy's aesthetics or ever really find reason to refer to her body parts unless its to tell her to stop boxing me but I do refer to her intellect often. Pebbles is my genius primadonna. Fancy is my beautiful but dumb toddler. I don't really mean that as an insult either. I've discovered that I adore dogs who are content to just be, to not think too much & to not try to out-think me. I love a dog who just takes me at my word, no matter what that word might be, over dogs like Pebbles who look at me like I'm the world's biggest idiot and she's there to hand me the award for that distinction. -- Tara |
