My dog is itching like crazy from allergies. Does anyone know of any home

We have a white toy poodle and the vet gives it cortisone pills. It has
helped
but not completely.
There are negative long term effects using cortisone but in the meantime she
has stopped scratching until she bleeds.
Check it out.

Treating the symptoms will not give relief. You need to find out what the
source of the allergies are and eliminate and treat for it. No easy fixes.
Talk to your vet.

So long as you are working with your vet on finding the root cause of this
problem, you can treat the soreness very effectively and without side
effects using Aloe Vera gel ~ just buy a plant & snapoff bits of the
'leaves' (or whatever you call those spikes!) ~ it's ugly, but its a miracle
plant.

How old is your dog? My dog is scratching all the time and is generally sick
every day. The vet figured that it was likely caused by an inflammatory
bowel desease brought about by allergies, likely to food. They gave me a
hypo allergenic recipe for me to start making his food. I tried that for a
few weeks, but he was not better, probably a bit worse (though not sick or
scratching as much due to the pred). Next they had me try Z/D diet. He was
on that for a while, and when the course of prednisone had ended, within a
couple of weeks, he was back to being sick every day.

Since the Z/D diet was not helping any, and also because he does not like it
very much at all, I went back to the previous hypo allergenic diet he was
on.

I had some pills left over from when he was on them, so to give him a bit of
a break, I decided to start giving some again... but not as much and not for
as long. I just don't like to see him scratching all the time or vomitting
every day. The vet does not want to give him Prednisone too much and has
not prescribed any more, because "he is too young" and its not good for
him....Vomiting every day is good for him????? I think not!

I am not sure how damaging the Prednisone (or Cortisone) would be, but how
much worse can it be than the alternative? Any other ideas what I could do
for my little guy?

Benadryl has worked for us, until you find the root of the itchiness.
Remember that it will not "cure" the allergies, only help with the symptoms.
Atty is 62 lbs, and we give her one, every 12 hours, however I would ask
your vet what dosage for the weight of your dog.
