"Leah" wrote in message ... However... have you guys noticed other breeds who tend to do this? In particular, border collies? Madigan does it, and I think I've noticed it in other bcs. Coda does it, Bodhi decidedly does not. I've noticed a few BCs & Aussies that do it. And, as close as they can get to it, I think I saw a Newfie girl puppy do it last night at obed. class! They were leaving, we were just getting there. Of course, she also was SO excited to see the instructor that she piddled on the matting...well, for a Newfie, a "piddle" is more like a puddle! Talk about having an *excellent* distraction to work around (it was cleaned up, but not one dog let it go unnoticed at least once while heeling, or doing stays). Shelly & The Boys |

However... have you guys noticed other breeds who tend to do this? In particular, border collies? Huh. Y'know, stopping and thinking about it, I know several BCs who do it... and some Aussies, too. And of course, as I've mentioned before, Rocsi does it - but in her case I call it pinto beaning. |

"Leah" wrote in message ... I have a student of unknown origin, but we've figured that there's either pit or boxer in there somewhere. She confirmed it the other night - she kidney beaned. Probably boxer. However... have you guys noticed other breeds who tend to do this? In particular, border collies? Madigan does it, and I think I've noticed it in other bcs. i've seen dogs of lots of breeds do this. a sibe x chow most recently. i don't think it's a breed specific trait. it's a natural reaction to butt scratching. :-) -kelly |

I'm not talking about what dogs do if you scritch their butts, and I don't think Leah is either. What I'm talking about (and I believe Leah is) is dogs who approach humans (or other dogs they like) wagging their entire bodies instead of just their tails, sometimes doing a sort of sideways wiggle dance. IOW, it's a greeting behaviour. In Rocsi's case, I believe that part of why she does it is that she hasn't GOT a tail. |

Both with collars so I wanted to catch and try to read the tags. Naturally I was a bit wary with the Dobie. Up until she kidney beaned into me and nearly knocked me down! Can't mistake that body language! Escapee's from a boarding kennel nearby! I didn't know Dobie's kidney beaned until then. Fran |
