I adopted a young staffiter terrier from a pound 3 1/2 years ago. This dog
had problems. she had been adopted out 3 other times only to be returned. She had been beaten as a puppy because of bad behavior. After we brought her home she bit my sister 3 times but we wouldn't take her bake just to be euthinised. She has sience settled down but now has a tumor in her mouth and two large lumps on her kidnies. Her vet is almost sertin that it is deadly cancer. I have no choice but to put her down but I don't have the strength. The only thing really keeping her alive is the fact that I have not abandond her yet and I feel if I put her down that I will betray her. Can any one give me any advice as to how I make the rest of her time her enjoyabe. |

If so, as a responsible owner you really only have 2 choices. Either remove the medical conditions if a treatment is available. Or have the dog put down. Anything else is just cruelty. I know I sound unsympathetic. I'm not. I just had to have my old girl put down and it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. However, when I carried her to the Vet's table for the last time, he said to me, Jim, you're doing the right thing. It's time and it's part of your job to make these decisions *on behalf of the dog*. I still miss her terribly but I know I'm only feeling sorry for myself. Not her. And when you avoid euthanasia, and suffering continues as a result, you are placing your own feelings ahead of your responsibility to your pet. Tough one I know. Jim |

Then you will be doing the best thing for her. Have you a friend that may help you be strong.? Losing any dog is very hard . It just never gets easier . Thoughts are with you...and your dog. Pat. |
