Heather, you might consider doing a google search for your breed and
locate a bulletin board or email list devoted to Leonbergers. There,
you will find a number of people who know the breed well, often the ones
who are the true experts. Here, you might find one or two..... One of
the specific places you might find an email list is at yahoogroups.com.

Thanks Pat,

Yes, I have looked into the health issues. I use to have Bouviers. Large
breeds require special attention monitoring their growth. If that is done
usually you can prevent atleast most of the possible issues.

In my Leo I have obtained copies of many of the medical ratings on the
parents of my pup...hips, elbows, thyroid, eyes, heart etc. I have checked
her pedigree for multiple common lineage and haven't found any to be
concerned about.

Cancer, well, let's just keep our fingers crossed. Anyway, I feel I have
done what I can to insure I have the healthiest pup I can get but breeding
is not a perfect science. So wish us luck!

I will also have the pup insured so as not to be hit too hard with drastic
vet bills if a health issue arises.

thanks for your link...

Hi Heather,
You are welcome.
Sounds like you are three quarters there already owning a big dog.
Are you in the UK.
Not that you will need it but good luck.
Enjoy your puppy.

Hi Pat,

No, I am in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. My pup is coming from VonLinderhof
Kennel just outside of Quebec City.

I visited with Leo breeders in Denmark in February. I had a wonderful
experience and totally fell in love with the breed. I then found a breeder
here in Nova Scotia but she had two unsucessful attempts at breeding this
spring. I then contacted a Leo owner I new in Ontario. Her male, Bogie, is
the father of my pup. She directed me to Pauline and her dogs.

It's been an adventure for sure.

good luck with your pup!

toodles

HeatherM
