I have a gorgeous little bundle of pure love & sweetness, laid back &
loves everyone & even has no prolem with cats. Katie is also a Dr.Jekyl
& Mr. Hyde when at home. She is ultra protective & territorial. Anyone
visiting me (especially large men) she tries to nip & anyone coming up
my path gets growled at, even those she knows & loves. I can take her to
work & elsewhere & it's as if she knows & loved everyone for years. I
can take her favorit food from her mouth without a worry & she's so easy
to teach tricks & she's hghly intelligent, but when a stranger comes
near she goes ballistic. Any ideas on what I can do? I'm taking her to
obedience training, but normally she'd be the last dog to need it so
laid back & gentle is she. I hope it does some good. Any help would be
most appreciated. If you have any ideas or techniques that have proved
successful please E mail me. If I can straighten her out I will be
forever in your debt. Carl & his beloved little monster. Check out

Sure'n Katie is a fair colleen. You are doing the right thing, though,
taking her to obedience class. Just you mind the instructor...:-)

How do I praise her when she's snapping at my neighbor or a relative
that aywhere else she loves, but at home she goes nuts? I realize that
she feels that I'm in danger & needs to protect me, but..... Do you mean
it about the chuck on the chin or are you just being facetious??? The
last thing I want is to hurt her.

Don't listen to him. You're new here, so you don't know yet that he prides
himself on railing at anyone and everyone and generally being a real
nuisance, but rarely manages to say anything coherent enough to be of value
to anyone. Most people have him killfiled. I do find it very amusing that in
his attempt to quote someone else he sees as abusive (and if this chin-chuck
thing is really done, I do too) it ended up looking like he was telling you
to do that. I just plain ignored him for a while (and still do, except for
telling people not to bother with him, as this post) but he ended up
attacking me personally anyway, usually being dead wrong too (like telling
me I never leave my dog alone in the room with the baby because I feel I
can't trust her, and that when he's crawling I'll abuse the dog emotionally
by watching her like a hawk, to keep her from hurting him--for the record, I
do leave them alone for a few minutes at a time now while he's small and in
a playpen or bed, but when he's crawling I'll watch the BABY like a hawk and
teach him proper respect for the dog and her private space). Responding to
the guy just encourages him. (And now I've asked for it!)

By the way, many people can't see posts in HTML, so it's considered polite
to post in plain text.
