Default poop redux

Hi Gang,

My vet diagnosed my 1.5 yr. old Goldendoodle with giardia and prescribed
Albendazole Suspension twice daily for five days.

She finished the medicine yesterday but today her diarrhea is as bad as
ever. Plus she has terrible gas. And she's acting like her stomach is
upset.

I'm guessing that (like people) the medicine can wreak havoc on your stomach
and bowels.

So the questions to you knowledgeable people is what can I do to help my dog
feel better and possible help her with her diarrhea.

Thanks as always.

Giardia is very hard to get rid of. I would call the vet and have her
checked again especially if she still has the diarheaa.

..........go get some probiotics and give them to her twice a day. Some of
these meds wipe out all the good flora in the intestines.

........friendly bacteria that inhabit the gut. They're responsible for
production of some vitamins, help guard the health of the gut lining and
make up around 1/2 of stool. They're present in fermented milk products
like yogurt (if they say live cultures on the container), but in the case of
taking antibiotics I personally don't think that yogurt will do the trick.

This is a good website: http://www.usprobiotics.org/basics/

I use DDS manufactured by UAS labs. They're supposed to be a more acid
resistant bacteria so they can get past the stomach. They're in the
refrigerated case in a health food store.
