I do not know who gave you this test but as a CGC evaluator the rules
are that a stranger hold the dog by the leash. The dogs are NOT tied down or grated or x-penned. the CGC evaluator can not change the test rules in any way. If you go to the AKC web sight you can see the rules for your self and see that I am telling you the truth. This person should not be a CGC evaluator...Bob savaskan wrote: Nancy E. Nope. You hand the leash to the person giving the test and then leave. The idea is that you can (say) give your friend the leash to your dog and dash into the bank to deposit a check without the dog making a huge fuss or giving yhour friend a problem. --Cindy -- My two Anatolian Shepherd Dogs (ASDs) got their CGCs last December. The testers did the tie down test. I tied them down, told them to stay, and left around the corner of a building with the tester sitting nearby to see that the dog was relatively calm. They did not do the test as Cindy described. I did not hand my dogs off, (but could have just as well.) I asked the testers about the the ability to use crates as a part of the test and they said that it was an option, but I didn't need to. Its good that mine both tie well, the stake they had was a joke and either one of my dogs (95 lb bitch and 140 lb dog) could have ripped it right out of the nice soft turf in seconds. ASDs are considered a very "aloof with strangers" sort of breed. But if socialized will accept introduced strangers. While I think a CGC is nice, I don't think that requiring a CGC is relevant for ASDs as a breeding requirement, (newly accepted to AKC in Misc. June 1). Working ASDs need to be able to be handled by a vet, but most of the tests in the CGC are not relevant to the type of work they do. Many excellent working livestock guardian dogs cannot deal with a "dog social" and that is perfectly ok in most LGD breeds. It has taken a lot of work for mine to be able to go out and about showing and being breed representatives, and then to go home and relax in manure....:-) I would rather see health testing required if anything... . 4: Why are you responding to a thread from 1996? Because Bob posted through Google.com They have, apparantly, "updated" the way that groups.google.com handles things. IIRC, the old software, if the post was over a certain amount of time old (1 month I think) you couldn't respond. You can respond to any post now. The interface and a number of other things have apparantly changed. I post through news.individual.net, so I haven't seen any of them. However, some groups (news.groups is one) are getting flooded with people complaining that this is all part of some giant conspiracy. However, if you go through the country-specific places (google.ca or something like that) they are the same. -- Marcel and Moogli |
