Default Its not good

Hi My staffy cross keeps scratcing his nose (muzzle) till the point now
where it is raw. not that bad , but if it is like lip/burn for a human , it
must be uncomfortable for my mate . The vet says its an allergy and
subscribed a week of antibiotics, but that was not the answer. Keeps
scratching. I figured a skin moisterizer, sorbolene, calandula would help
and maybe i should administer more than once a day? but maybe I should
leave it and let his own immune system take control. Can anyone advise me
please? . thanks....dennis

Did you recently install new carpet, vinyl, tile, landscaping? Have you
recently changed his food or water bowls? Have you sprayed your yard or
house with insecticide or fertilizer lately?

Think of anything at all the dog's nose comes into contact frequently.
Anywhere he lays down, eats, drinks or sniffs is suspect.

If you've changed absolutely nothing then I'd consider getting a second
opinion because there may be some kind of fungus or infection starting.

In the meantime you can try Benadryl cream if the dog doesn't lick his nose
or regular Benadryl orally. 1/2mg to 2mg per pound is the generic dosage
range. I'm personally comfortable with 1mg per pound and find (2) 25mg
Benadryls to work for a 50-65lb dog. Its not a fix but a temporary aid and
that's assuming the reaction the dog is having is allergic.
