reel_jemm_spa! off eating anything. Thank God it's not constant; albeit frequent, it is still sporadic. Well, if it is not constant and you find the variables that control it then you can eliminate it. Is your dog spayed? If not how does the odor covary with her estrus cycle? --Marshall |

I've always noticed that when my dogs are sleeping, their feet tend to smell vaguely similar to cornchips, or Fritos. All my dogs feet have smelled like this... has anyone ever noticed the peculiar smell, or am I just strange? If you're not familiar with the smell of cornchips, buy a bag and take a good whiff. Then go smell yer dog's feet while they're sleeping. You'll understand what I'm talking about! ![]() -- ~Dan Schneider Lori Reynolds Jan 3 2002, 6:42 am show options Newsgroups: rec.pets.dogs.health From: "Lori Reynolds" - Find messages by this author Date: Thu, 03 Jan 2002 14:42:35 GMT Local: Thurs, Jan 3 2002 6:42 am Subject: Dog Smells Like Nachos Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show original | Report Abuse I love frito feet! I've noticed my dogs' feet usually smell the strongest while/after they've been sleeping, especially if they sleep under the covers. Probably something similar to people BO. And yes, I'm weird, I purposefully pick up my dogs feet when they're sleeping and take a big deep whiff! To me it's a happy dog restful scent. -- Lori in Peoria, IL - Happy Hound Bakery at Happy Hound Hollow ~ Ask me about hound-sitting while you vacation! ~ Family stuff: http://www.geocities.com/reynoldsfamily_2000/ Happy Hound Hollow Sighthound Rescue http://www.geocities.com/happyhoundhollow "Puffbu" wrote in message Gregory Luce Apr 17 1999, 12:00 am show options Newsgroups: rec.pets.dogs.breeds From: "Gregory Luce" - Find messages by this author Date: 1999/04/17 Subject: Smelly Basset Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show original | Report Abuse One problem with smelly dogs can be a bacterial infection in the normal oil, others produce too much oil leading to the nasty smelling dog. See if your vet can help and if this doesn't help another alternative is referral to a veterinary dermatologist. I have a basset and one thing that helped his odor is weekly bathing a coal tar shampoo One problem with smelly dogs can be a bacterial infection in the normal oil, others produce too much oil leading to the I knew a woman who's dog had this exact problem. The thing really smelled awful! After trying all kinds of ointments, she finally took it to the vet. The dog had a bacterial infection on it's skin. Cleared right up. I'd strongly suggest you make a stop by your vet's office. This may be simple to take care of. Eric Show quoted text - Lyn, I can't help you with the stinky feet, but the odor in your car I can help with. There's a product called "OdoBan" on the market. It's an industrial strength multipurpose antibacterial/virucidal disinfectant. It's biodegradable and contains no dyes. We bought it at Sam's Club. I've heard it's also available at Costco. We bought a gallon, which is concentrated and makes up to 32 gallons when mixed.. You mix 5 oz. to a gallon of water. We put ours in a spray bottle, spray where needed, wait a moment or two and wipe up. It works on porous and nonporous surfaces. I've used it in my car, on my furniture, to mop the floor, clean kitchen counters, wipe out dog crates, etc. It REALLY works. When I first found out about it I was walking through Sam's Club and a lady was doing a demo. She sprayed pure vinegar onto a paper towel and had me smell it to make sure it was strong. PU -! It stunk. She then sprayed one squirt of OdoBan and every bit of the odor was gone instantly. I've used it where my puppy has peed on the carpet and furniture, and there's no trace of any odor at all. It also is a mold/mildew inhibitor and removes stains from almost everything, including laundry. OdoBan is manufactured by: Clean Control Corporation PO Box 7444 Warner Robins, GA 31095 (912)922-5340 Hope this helps. Alyssa Lyn wrote in message ... Tessa, my basenji mix, has the stinkiest dog feet in the world. (PU!!!) The problem is that, due to this, the back of my car where I tote the dogs now smells terrible. I have tried cleaning it with Nature's Miracle, and also Febreese, to no avail (and my other dog HATES Febreese). I have used every carpet cleaner in the world. It still stinks after a day or so. Any suggestions for de-putrifying my car?!? I am desparate. BTW, I don't think the foot odor is from diet, as she eats Eukanuba light, and has an occassional fishy kitty food snack. Any suggestions? If her feet are red and irritated, that could be the cause of the smell problem. Have had her to the vet twice about the smell, and he doens't seem too alarmed about the smell. He said GSD's have a lot of hair on their feet which will hold smells. Her feet never stunk until about a year ago. The smell is like the smell of something stale, like old grease. He put her on a regimine of betadine solution soaks twice a day, and vinegar washes 3 times a week. This has not helped. Anyone else experience stinky feet, and were you able to get rid of it? (Please note, this is not the smell of something she stepped in.) Thanks -- Sherry D. Do they smell like fritos? My collie had frito feet. It occurs in about 25% of all dogs. Don't know why.... Guess because dogs do sweat from their pads, they can have the same problem as some people. You could always try using medicated baby powder between the pads to absorb the sweat. Ive heard this a few times in my grooming shop from clients, and the same thing always enters my mind... Stop smelling your dogs feet!!!(Its a joke folks, dont get offended) Rachel |
