Default Smelly paws - Softcoated Wheaten Terrier

From my experience and posts on the dog groups, paws often
smell like popcorn.

Yup, though more like corn chips to this discerning nose. Even
though my dogs don't eat corn, they have Frito Feet.

Yup corn chips. Every dog I've ever owned has had Frito Feet. If their feet
are a bit wet after coming in from the outside my floor will smell like it
to.

Yep, Matt--I think a "corn chip" smell is a better description.

Thank you, Marshall, much appreciated. I was just talking to someone who

knew nothing about it!

OK but does your dog's feet smell like "corn chips/Fritos"?

Yup! Cheyenne's feet smell like Dipsy Doodle corn chips. I love the smell
of her feet.

that's weird. my dogs' feet don't usually smell at all. unless they step
in something, that is.

It's probably staph aureus, a common bacteria which smell like Fritos.

Hard to control on dogs feet for obvious reasons.

Border collies have "cracker feet". Their paws have to be pretty close
to your nose to smell it, though. Usually if I'm catching a whiff of
Saltines, somebody's about to get kicked out of bed for having their
feet in my face.

Hi, Kathleen!

Cute, you crack me up. Well in our case, the smell is strong and annoying.
You walk in a room where she's been for a while, and you get a whiff that
won't quit! She comes and lays down at your feet when watching the evening
news and you get the whiff! As I said before, I like both popcorn and
cornchips and while the smell is akin to both, it's bad enough to turn me
off eating anything. Thank God it's not constant; albeit frequent, it is
still sporadic.
