Training a dog to go outside is fairly easy - especially if you live in
a house with your own yard and not in an apartment. I find the easiest way is to take the paper with some pee or a turd on it already outside with you so that they associate "going out" with "going". Take the dog out at regular intervals and try and keep them out there (if the weather permits) until they go. Once they go, praise them extensively, I mean get really excited with "good girl/boy" and be sure to bring some yummy treats to reward them. Keep taking them to the same area when they do go outside. Also, keep an eye on the puppy and when he/she begins to pee on the paper, pick him/her up and run like the wind outside so they can continue there. Be consistent, dogs need alot of guidance and in order for their behaviour to improve, you need to give them precise directions. They want to please you so make sure you make them fully aware when they make you happy - they'll want to keep doing it. I am a little concerned that this dog is over a year old and has not yet been trained to go outdoors. Why did the previous owners not do this? |

oups.com... Connie wrote: Jerry, Sorry to be an idiot here, but where can this manual be found? The URL in your signature goes to a non-working site, your e-mail addresses bounce back, and a web-search turns up lots of references but no download site. You also write a lot about the Doggy Do Right device, which sounds like it might help with our rescue dogs, but I can't find any place to purchase one to try out. Could you give more specific information, please? Trying to get informed Thank you Connie You don't want his "manual." Go get a book from a reputable trainer - not from some insane guy. Seriously, you haven't noticed that he is totally insane? Really??? Ok, I don't know if I should say, be nice to her....or if she really is just trying to get everyone riled up. Connie, Jerry is a nimwit (to say it nicely). You could probably get better and more accurate info out of a Cherrios box. Really, go get a book from a reputable trainer, or 2 or 3 or 4. Jerry has been trying to hawk his wares for at least 7 or 8 years that I know of. By the fact that you can't reach him....that's a clue. I don't know how long you have been around here, but Jerry is a jerk. An annoying jerk. Obviously you've been around enough to find his name is Jerry....really rather scary that he can snare people into his scam. Try the local library for a book. Mali |
