This is when she does her poop rolling routine. I'll try
taking her on a leash and correcting her when she shows any
interest in the stuff. Hopefully after a few times, she'll
get the idea.

There's a very good chance that she won't get the idea. She
doesn't know that she's doing anything wrong - for a correction
to be effective, she has to understand *why* you're correcting
her.

Boy! How some of you DO go on. And on. One would think that dog
ownership and training is like religion where each person has his
interpretation and it is the only true one. Phooey! The dogs we have are
for us, to satisfy our own selfish needs, no matter how much we may bullshit
ourselves otherwise or how altruistic we sound. And if this is done with no
harm to anyone else or the dog who should care how? Some people just HATE
the idea of a leash, hate the thought that they would have one on them and
hate to use them on their dog. They use them when they have to. Here in PA
I don't know of one dog park. Every other kind of park has a leash law
which we obey. Absolutely the only place I can let him loose is here in the
neighborhood. And I do. And I think it is perfectly fine for Plin, the
subject of all your self righteous criticism, to do the same in her
cul-de-sac if the neighbors don't mind. And they can't be too fussy with all
their own poop in the yards. Why, my neighbors ENJOY my dog in their yard.
I make sure he craps in MY yard before we go. I can be on the lookout for
cars, he comes back if I call, doesn't hurt anybody, what's the big
problem?? Lighten up people. This is the most intolerant newsgroup I have
seen. You all sound like religious fundamentalists. I'm sure George Bush
got the majority of the dog trainer vote.
Now - ready, aim, fire!

Good for you! That's your choice. And if your dog decides
to avail himself of the various goods and services available
in your neighborhood (say, somebody else's dog poop), that's
your responsibility. And if your dog is hit by a car,
that's your responsibility, too. And, say, if he gets into
a fight with another dog, yup, that's your responsibility.

I can't quite fathom complaining about your dog doing
something that you basically gave it permission to do.

WELL, YES THE DOG IS MY RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE LOTS OF RESPONSIBILITIES,
HE'S JUST ONE OF THEM. I WALKED MY KIDS AND GRANDCHILDREN ALL OVER THIS
NEIGHBORHOOD, ALWAYS LOOKING OUT FOR CARS WHICH HAVE TO GO SLOWLY HERE,
AND NEVER LOST ONE YET. AND THEY DIDN'T RESPOND AS WELL AS MY DOG. MY
DOG DOESN'T ROLL IN POOP AND AT 6 POUNDS IF HE GETS INTO A FIGHT HE WILL
LOSE. SO HE DOESN'T FIGHT AND NEITHER DO THE OTHER DOGS AROUND HERE. I'M
ONLY SPEAKING FOR MYSELF AND MY SITUATON, NOT ADVOCATING ANYTHING FOR
ANYBODY ELSE.

You let your six lb. dog roam free? How original of you.

Now, how does your advice help someone whose dog is rolling
in poop in someone else's yard?

Boy! I *so* understand your point of view!

You asked for a civil response. I gave one. And then you went
on and on.

wouldn't say that wandering a few yards away from me to socialize with my
neighbor is exactly "roaming free"

I ALREADY TOLD THEM TO USE A LEASH CORRECTION TECHNIQUE 2 DAYS AGO. IF
THEY DID I SUSPECT THE DOG IS CURED BY NOW.

I doubt it very, very much. If they used the "leash
correction" you recommended the dog learned not to do it
while on-leash, which isn't the problem they're having.
