Default Stress

Leah: I just read with interest your posting on stress and exercise in
the NG. I have been a physician (ob gyn) for a long, long time. A very
frequent problem, more lately than before, is pseudo science and pseudo
medicine. Going a long way on a very little bit of knowledge. It is so
prevalent in pet lore, cycling, running, dieting, body building, estrogen
replacement, in all of which activities I have been very much involved.
Leading to things like high colonics, vegetarianism (for health reasons)
megavitamin therapy and the huge sale of "natural" hormone containing
medicines (which are lucky to contain even trace amounts of the hormone) to
mention a few. The whole study of stress in particular is immensely
complex, innumerable body functions, hormones, enzymes and chemicals
involved - feedback mechanisms from one organ to another. You just can't
jump to a conclusion on this subject. One would have to know ALL ABOUT
adrenaline, its presence in the body, its other forms, precursors and
breakdown products, all about the adrenal gland, as much as can be known
about the brain, serotonin etc... to make even a half -hearted guess about
stress, its causes, cures and effects. And how about cortisone, the main
and basic hormonal response to stress - where does that fit in?
So I'm not commenting on the article, just saying beware of pseudo
science, especially rampant in the pet world from what I have seen.

Cheers. Jack

What nursing home do you think he's in? You are the expert on this
subject.

I will give my guess: he's not. Yet you are. Go figure - some
imbecile who can't even take care of himself goes on to belittle others
about dog training.

AssHowe, if you can't EVEN take care of yourself, how can you possibly
take care of dogs???

You are such a moron it's becoming hilarious. People are learning that
you are the utmost idiot in all the land...

Pat

Thanks for a well-stated, oft-needed warning.
