Default Providing for our dogs if we die?

Hopefully someone will take me seriously enough to point us in the
right direction to accomplish our goal, which is -- if we die (and we
aren't planning to go any time soon (- we wonder who will care for
our dogs? We would like to take care of this matter. We have no
children and my sister lets her dogs run wild, so she is out of the
question.

We would, of course, provide for the care of our dogs by rewarding
someone that we know with a more-than-adequate amount of money to care
for the dogs. And of course, additional money for them for taking on
the chore. Who might oversee this? Their Vet? He might make them the
"blood dogs" at his practice. That would be unacceptable....

We have presently two dogs and we will never have more than that. Our
dogs are well behaved, trained in the social graces and friendly.

What prompts my inquiry is that I just heard on the radio that Hawaii
provides for a trust that one may set up for such pet care.

We have an existing will but it doesn't provide for animal care. I
tried writing a new will with a computer software program, but it did
not allow you to leave money with strings attached -- such as, "I
leave $$$ to So-and-So for the care of Fido and Fluffy."

Yeah, I could leave my money to a better cause, but I chose to do this
instead. We adopted the dogs knowing in our hearts that it was "for
better or worse." Whatever happened to the dogs, we were going to be
there for them. And we don't have kids. So I guess I became one of
those old ladies who made her dogs her kids (-:

I wouldn't want them tossed in an animal shelter should we both
die.....I do love them.

Before I see a lawyer, I thought I would like to know what my options
might be.

Hi Trixie. U know something my husband & I think about this all the time
& we have 3 dogs 5 cats. I'm 62 He's 50. We're not going to live for
ever especially with me smoking rolled cigarettes from tobacco out of a
can & him doing the same plus his beer. We keep asking each other what
is the person that's left after the other one dies is going to do about
the animals. My dogs are between 10 & 12 yrs. old. My cats range from 10
to 2 yrs. old. So I know for sure some of my cats will out live me. I
don't know of any one that my dogs would feel comfortable with, So I can
only hope that they die before me. I know I have to talk to a good
friend of mine just incase my husband & I both die the same day about
this subject. Can't even afford a lawyer for this. I definitely don't
want to abandon my pets. Please if you come up with something? Let me
know? I live in Massachusetts. Don't know if my state has the same thing
as Hawaii does or how much it'll cost

Because I know that some SPCAs have programs to address the concern I did
a google search on
SPCA trust death
and came up with lots of interesting links. I'll give some here but I
suggest you repeat and modify the search to look for more. For example
subsitute "Humane Society" for SPCA
