Default problem with getting my dog up the stairs solved, finally ( or. how to get a huge, high strung injured dog up the stairs)

Here's the update on that situation:

I called the vet, they sent two techs around to get him,
he went to the hospital, and got diagnosed as having a knee problem.
No torn ligaments, no hip dyspalsia, no back problem. well and good.
They give me Rimadyl for him, and I take him home, and of course
we cannot get him up the stairs. He is not supposed to be putting
weight on it anyway.

So we went and bought a huge dog carrier . So here is what we
did, after quite a bit of experimentation and hair-pulling:

1. One hour before putting him in the carrier, I give him his Rimadyl
and also a clomicalm pill.

2. put on his harness and muzzle.

3. Tie a bandana to his collar, through his muzzle, and cover his
eyes so that he cannot see.

4. Dismantle the dog carrier (which cost $100 btw), and back the dog
up to the bottom piece.

5. Put a towel around his stomach, and lift him up while sliding the
bottom piece under his back legs. Then we have to push him in the
rest of the way, slowly and carefully.

6. Hold him down while re-assembling the dog carrier. The bandana is
key here.

7. slide carrier down hallway.

8. Lift carrier up stairs, letting it rest for a bit on each step.

9. finally let him out at the top of the stairs.

So that, my friends, is what to do with a hundred pound, high strung,
neurotic, injured dog, who can't go up the stairs.
