i expect that was a relief to both of you.

It's an important chewing tooth so I hope that doesn't
happen.

you could get him a spiffy stainless steel tooth!

Ah well, there goes the money I had saved up for moving!

damn.

i sympathize with the PITA of unexpected vet bills. every
time i start feeling grumpy about it (it couldn't have come at
a worse time), i remind myself that at least i was able to pay
for harriet's vet visit. it occurred to me that (duh) lots of
people truly cannot scrounge up the cash. the sudden thought
of being in that position made me sick.

Me too. One thing that always makes me real sad is when I go downtown and run
across some guy sitting on a grate with his mangy, devoted dog. Of course he's
no example of a responsible dog owner but I always imagine that that dog is his
best friend in the world and that if anything ever happened to it, he'd lose
that best friend.

I can afford regular visits to the vet with my dog but if it ever came to some
mega lifesaving procedure that cost thousands, I think I'd be ****ed. It upsets
me to even think about things like this.

Solo has my sympathy. I've had three root canals so far, one
apicoectomy and one extraction. The apico and extraction were on two
of the teeth that have had root canals in the past. At least he
shouldn't have to worry about that. Usually happens 20 + years after a
root canal.

IMO, that's the embodiment of a responsible dog owner.

Aww. I pretty much agree, though the characterization of 'responsible dog owner'
seems to be the one who can afford the best food (OMG there is so much snobbery
regarding dogfood, it's nuts!), the best obedience trainng and the best vet
care.

Poverty and dogs go together like love and marriage, dogs don't seem to care
about fiscal stuff much. Even though I have a job and can take my dog in to the
vet regularly, i hesitate to judge the dog owner who can't. I think, maybe, if
it's even possible, that they love their dogs even more than I do. Or at least
as much. Yeah, at least as much.

You've lost me again, though I suspect you're being purposefully
disingenuous.
