whittled the following words:

80 lbs? What kind of pit bull weights 80 lbs?

An overweight one?

Don't they usually weight in at around 40 lbs? All the pits I've seen are
compact and muscular but not very tall. It sounds like a messed up hybrid
to
me.

i think the ukc breed standard goes up to 60.

So what does that mean, el? Is it not really a pit bull? Pit bull mixed with
a
rottweiller or something like that?

mine are 45 and 50.

Yours look very healthy. I get a bit annoyed when I see dogs that are
seriously
overweight (but I don't think an 80 lb pitbull can be *that* overweight, do
you?
It sounds more like some kind of mix to enlarge the breed).

i found a picture of the dog who wasn't shot by the cops.

if the link works. definitely not fat.

Just big, she looks up to the officers' thigh.

Okay, I thought this dog was just present and not involved? I understood it was
the other dog that was hyperexcited and wouldn't let the officers enter.

I guess she's dead no matter what, though.

Doesn't look good for pit bulls in the State of California.

a well-bred, stable-tempered pit bull should *not* be provoked to
attack by a 12 year old kid. dogs are not human children. it's not
fair to anthropomorphise like that.

Its also possible that there wasn't any overt provocation at all. I'm
thinking of "pack frenzy." It could have been any number of things from one
dog talking to the kid and the other starting a fight/joining in/taking it
too far to the two dogs fighting and the child being caught in the way then
being turned on to the child playing nicely with one or both dogs to the
child having a piece of food or any number of such things which didn't
involve obvious antagonization. Then again maybe not. I doubt anyone will
ever know if someone wasn't in the room at the time. I've seen what's
referred to as "pack frenzy" in dog-dog fights and its amazing the change
that comes over the dogs. That's why I'm hypothesizing on the possible lack
of child antagonism and why "family" pets suddenly turned.

Actually its a sign of poor treatment at the hands of humans.

Pitbulls are ******* crosses of bulldogs and other things. They were
originally bred to be *fighting dogs*. Staffordshire Terriers are
descendents of pitbulls; staffies have in fact been bred for loyalty
combined with their ability as guard dogs...

Yes, it is humans that make Pitbulls timid. It always saddens me to find
them in that condition because I realize their spirits have been broken
by a pathetic, wimpy human: a human being that they could have killed. I
sometimes have to remind myself which is the Animal.

I'm trying to learn the differences between Pitbulls, Staffordshires and
other similar-looking breeds; especially for visual identification.

Wooly, I thought about you this week, because I removed a Lot of dog
hair. I was never sure any of it would have been useful to you, so I
didn't collect any of it. :-(

Based on what I see & breed identifications in the southeast that dog looks
more American Bulldog than Pit to me.
