@g47g2000cwa.googlegroups.com: I like MOVE. I can see the immediate use for that. I'm leaning towards "easy" to use as "gentle" and I have "WAIT" on my list too. No problem. Wait is a command that I use pretty much every day. Whenever we cross the street - Wait. Whenever he comes in the house, he gets wait while I check his feet. Whenever we are carrying big/awkward loads up and down the stairs - Wait. Get down (off the sofa, off the chair, off the couch) is also extremely useful. -- Marcel and Moogli http://mudbunny.blogspot.com/ |

I find it confusing to say down or get down when "down" means to lay down. Rainy -- I can take it, I can make it. Like the man that you taught me to be. - Cindy Alexander http://cindyalexander.com |

They will only know one command for each task. What are your favorites? "Leave it".. whether a kitty needing chasing or a tasty morsel. Worked nicely the other nite when madam coon stopped by to snack on cat food and Zelda was having a potty break. "let's go" or "mumble mumble 'car ride'" "in" when it's time to go inside "house" for when we are walking and I want her to go home ahead of me rather than waiting. I'm a slow walker. "off" off the couch cos I want to sit there. "down" when she jumps up to try to lick her fav people.. she's pretty careful but I still don't need her knocking up against people."all the way" means a complete down.. with "bang bang" meaning to lay on one's side and be dead.. her head remains quite alive though g as she knows a good treat follows that command. "get it" .. whether a treat or to dig at a mole hole (mr. mole being long gone but hope springs eternal) "ok" .. means she can get out of the car/van. i once heard a distant muffled barking.. and then realized Zelda had stayed in the van while we unloaded it (multiple trips).. and here it was hours later. Thankfully it was cool but not cold out. It also means (ok) that she can have fallen morsels.. as long as the cats aren't eating it first ;-) "thank you, good girl" for when she alerts on something.. like hubby getting home or when the dog next door doesn't stop barking for umpteen hours and she figures 'something must be wrong". -- http://mistymage.com/ groups At mistymage Dot com |

Was trained this at a young age in case of an emergency. In the training world the dog is actually suppose to lay down..mine just stops and stands there. Out-Must release whatever's in his mouth. |

We use many of the same commands mentioned including off, wait, etc.
I also like "Here" - we use in 2 different contexts - one when throwing shorter frisbee throws under 20 yards, I say "here" as the dog goes around and I release the throw (this as opposed to "go" when it's a long bomb!), and also I use "here" when walking on or off leash, it means stick close to me. "OK" - is my release command "Go car" - when loading up in the vehicle "Quiet" - shut up that silly barking! "Leave It" - great command to tell them not to bother someone, some dog, or pick up/roll in something nasty. This is a life saver if you have a dog with a good nose......Crash once found an entire package of 100 oreo cookies at the park, and respected the "leave it " command at about 30 yards away from me - good doggy!
