Picked up a stray dog a few months ago and it had extremely bad lice... at
first we thought it had been rolling in sand. Got some special shampoo from the vet, and doused the dog, combed with fine toothed comb, and changed all the bedding. It slightly decreased the amount of lice but not much. Repeated this process 5 times, and there were far less, but still a lot of lice. The vet gave the dog a shot for the lice, we changed the bedding and continued to comb her. The vet was surprised when I went back with the dog 2 weeks later to show that the lice were still there. The vet gave her another shot. I went back the following week for a 'final' shot, and now 4 days later the lice are still everywhere, its very bad. The vet has run out of ideas. Is there anything else that I can do? |

Shave the dog down and/or consider a different vet who may offer a different form of treatment. -- Tara |

My last dog, a rescue GSD, came with lice which were effectively treated with Novan top coat spray before Frontline became popular in the UK. The spray was awful mind.
