Default Advice needed on few problems

Hi, we got out Border Collie Puppy Tammy when she was 8 weeks old, and
she is now 14 weeks old, and we have a few issues we'd like some advice
on.

During the day, she has a lovely temperament and is great with her
training, and it does carry through at other tines but during the
morning and evening especially she seems to change slightly in her
behaviour, instead of letting us stroke her she nibbles, and quite
painfully sometimes, bites us, and she will growl and show us her teeth
even more, and forgets all of her training, when we try telling her to
sit.

We have tried various things, such as saying No strongly, tapping her
nose and saying no, crying out in pain and whimpering when she does it,
putting her outside, for various amounts of time if she doesnt stop
after repeatedly telling her no, and we have giving her a chew toy to
deter her, but after a few minutes shes back to biting, we have even
tried spraying water at her and saying no when she wont stop, through
one of them handheld water spray things.

We took advice from one of our friends, who said when shes biting
your hands lay back on the sofa, with your hands underneath your back
so she can't get at them, and it worked for a while but now, she is
biting any part of us, feet, legs, stomach, breast area (very
painful!!) so it really has to stop, when we say no to her it seems to
wind her up even more and she starts her growling and pouncing at us,
if we ignore her she just keeps biting, and because it's quite painful
we can't not ignore her for long.

We end up having to put her outside because there is no other way to
stop her, she stays out there for a while and when she comes back in
she acts as if she knows shes done something wrong, but then when we
think shes behaving herself it starts again.

The main concern is children and other people when she's out, Ideally
I don't want to muzzle her as I don't think it's very nice that a
border collie with a reputation of being a somewhat graceful dog when
they move needs to wear a muzzle. But she is a people dog, she will
jump up even when we tell her no, and although she doesn't nibble new
people, and she hasn't done, (she didn't nibble my mum or dad untill
they'd stayed with us for a day and a half and had got used to them)
I'm just worried that there will be one point where she might
accidently nibble a child or a person.

Any help on how to stop the nibbling will be greatful!!!

Another problem we've had, and we've only just noticed her doing it, is
excitement wee, when she see's new people and is doing her wagging her
tail, being made a fuss of by them she will wee, my nan said she had a
female dog who used to do that aswell, so is it a girl thing? Will she
grow out of it?

Other than that, everything else is fine, she's good off the lead, as
long as there aren't any other people around lol, and she will come
back if called if she runs a bit too far off from us, she loves her
walks through various parts of the forest in the New Forest, she's fine
on her house training, was put back for a week on that because she was
in the vets for a week seriously ill, but she hs picked back up on her
house training and we are currently on the 4th night in a row when
she's gone all the way through without an accident.
It's mainly the biting, we are willing to try anything!

You can try a penny can shake (a handful of pennies in a tin can) to see if
that helps. Make sure that the things you are trying are things you are
giving enough time to sink in. IOW don't try something for one or two days
and then change tactics. That confuses the dog and doesn't teach her
anything IMO. I'd highly recommend a puppy obedience class for you and your
pup. You have a giant amount of energy & intelligence packed into that
little pup so now is the best time to take her in hand. Learn what she
responds to, what she doesn't, how she thinks, etc.

As for the excitement urination some dogs stop after a while and some don't.
My Min. Dachshund did this until she was about 3 years old. My friend's
Australian Shepherd has always done it and she's now 8, I believe. I don't
know of any methods to successfully cure this behavior so I can't help you
there.

If you keep putting her outside, I'm pretty sure that this is
the beginning of the end for your puppy.

she stays out there for a while and

She has no idea that she's done anything wrong - she's feeding
off of your countenance.

The main concern is children and other people when she's

I don't want to muzzle her as I don't think it's very nice
that a border collie with a reputation of being a somewhat

Have you taken her to an obedience class?

Anyway, for the puppy nipping, look at two recent threads on
this group: "Playful Nipping" are in both subject lines.
*Consistent* use of any of the methods outlined will help.

Another problem we've had, and we've only just noticed her
doing it, is excitement wee, when she see's new people and

of it?

She may grow out of submissive peeing, but in the meantime, the
main thing you can do is *not* to let people make a fuss over
her - no eye contact and absolutely no "fussing" until she's
settled down.
