Default Stay away from Banfield Pet Hospitals

I was at one last week, in Duluth Ga (Venture Blvd), to get a heartworm test
for my dog. The exam rooms were best described as filthy, with dirty floors
and dirt building up in the corners. There was a fly buzzing around in the
room. There was hair on the countertops. The vet smocks were dirty.

On top of taking an entire hour to do the test and inspection, they had the
nerve to charge me $12 for a written prescription because I wouldn't buy the
heartworm medicine from them.

I think they're a really low-rent organization. Don't waste your time or
money with them.

Although I'm skeptical about the Banfield operation, the local office is
immaculate. My own vet is associated with it. Because the office is
inside a PetsMart, it is definitely Not "low rent".

Charging for prescriptions that are filled elsewhere is an increasingly
common practice. I don't like it, but that's business.

I hope your new vet is more to your liking.

So one would have to ask why you did not leave right then and there?

Because I had already signed the form agreeing to the treatment. And it's a
huge hassle to go to a new vet, and fill out all the paperwork again.

The waiting area was ok, but once I got in the exam room I noticed the
filth. And the fly. And the hair on the counter. And the dirt in the
corners.

I mentioned it to the vet and she agreed and said they were looking into a
new cleaning service - or some lame excuse like that. I bet if I go back in
a month (which I won't) the place is still filthy.

Stay away from them.

Small World??? I've been to that Petsmart/Banfield many times in the
past but have not visited in over 5 years. IMHO, That area has really
gone down hill over the last 10 years, which may explain the poor
condition. That's too bad, it used to be such a nice area. Check
around for a better Vet. I think you'll have a better experience if
you look around the Peachtree Industrial / Pkwy. or Suwanee area.

Best regards,

David

We've been very pleased with the Banfield Hospital in Dallas. It is
always very clean, most of the staff knows our pet's name by sight,
they all obviously love animals, and our Nugget (Lab/Golden mix)
loves them!!

We get excellent explanations of any treatment and suggestions of
what we can use "over the counter" to save money.

Obviously, they are not a discount shop, so any medications we buy
there are not as cheap as internet pricing. The difference seldom is
enough to justify purchasing products elsewhere - and we can go home
with them in hand.

We do use their wellness plan (so much each month for all visits and
innoculations). We simply drop our dog off at lunch and pick her up
after work. Once or twice, we've gone in unannounced and had a very
short wait.

It sounds like your experience may be related to a specific location
and not all locations within that chain. We checked them out with all
of the vets in our neighborhood before we got our pup (1 1/2 years
ago) and liked them best.
