None of the vets in this area cleans the skin of a dog prior to giving
an injection. In the old days when alcohol was the only agent available, I can see where this might not help. However, with the availability of iodine containing agents, I do not see why they would not be used. A friend of mine has a Standard Poodle which developed a massive abscess at the site of an antibiotic injection. She ended up with a 5" incision after exploration and evacuation of the abscess. Any references on this subject would be appreciated Norm Norman S. Nadel, M.D. Retired, Chief Urology Kaiser |

Don't they use alcohol in human medicine any more for injection sites? FWIW I think most vets I've run across use alcohol. .......you might post this over in alt.med.veterinary as there are occasional vets who hang out. buglady take out the dog before replying |
