Default Tragic dog story (almost became a tragic human story)

This isn't my story, I just saw it happen on the way to work today
around noon. I was driving northbound on I405, the main freeway that
goes around the east side of Seattle. I was in the left of the two free
lanes in my car, and there was an SUV in the carpool lane on the left
just ahead, kitty corner to me. We were both doing about 65-70 MPH,
when all of a sudden a dog went flying by me, spinning over and over as
it flew through the air and I shouted something like, "OH HELL!" It was
a husky type dog around 50-60 pounds, and it must have jumped out of
the window on the opposite side of the SUV.

I could hear the sound of the dog's impact with the road and honked at
the SUV frantically, and they stopped to get the dog. Luckily there was
no cars directly behind them to get hit by the dog or run it over.
There's almost no median along that stretch of the freeway, so they had
to stop right in the road. As I called 911 on my cell phone, I looked
back and saw the dog standing up next to the concrete divider, so it
looks like it lived at least that long.

If the dog had jumped out my side of the vehicle, it would have gone
right through my windshield and I wouldn't be typing this now. At best
I would be in the hospital, at worst I would be dead. They let me have
some time to calm down at work, since my hands were shaking so badly I
could hardly type.

Dogs are best are best kept restrained in vehicles, IMHO.
