Default Puppy growing to fast??

I got a puppy at the local humane society about a month ago, They said
he is Australian shep/German shep mix.
He was 7 weeks old when I got him and 5 and a half pounds.. Now at 12
weeks he weighs over 15 pounds. He had some limping problems with his
back legs at about 10 weeks, the vet did x-rays and seemed to think it
was the fast growth, and put him on Science diet large breed puppy. The
limping is pretty much gone now, but still pretty young to have growing
pains..
Any thoughts on this, any ideas on how big this little guy might get???
Anything I should watch for??

Thanks for any info

Aimee

When Barney was a pup he doubled his weight every month from the time he was
8 weeks till he was 5 months old the he slowed down. This meant he went
from 4lb, 8lb, 16lb, to 32lb. I told the vet at his 5 month check up that
he darn well better not weigh 64lbs next month. She just laughed and
reassured me that his growth spurt was just about over. She was right he
finally stopped growing around 50lbs and it took the rest of the year to get
that size..............LOL.

Considering the mix you have I'd guess you're going to end up with a dog
someplace about 60lbs if it's a male and less if it's a female. In my
opinion is an ideal size for a dog is 60lbs that size is manageable but
still has the intimidation effect with strangers when needed. My current
dog is a collie/shepard mix and is around 43lbs and is the most sociable dog
you could want. She's definately not much of a watch dog unless it's a
rabbit that is in the yard.

How cute! At 12 weeks we were almost 40 pounds! If the Large Breed puppy
food doesn't help the limping or "growing pains (aka pano)", go ahead and
switch him over to adult food. Contrary to popular belief, adult food is OK
for a puppy - especially if he has problems like pano or is a large breed
dog. We'll not get into brands of food - that always start problems here.
If you supplement with home cooked food, back off until you see how he does
on the LBP.

Other than that, you have a very sharp mix! I think Celeste is right on the
size. Good luck on trying to keep him calm until he gets past his pains.

Thank you both for the comments on my puppy, it does help to hear from
others. Sound's like he is normal, guess that's what I needed to hear.
I've kind of thought he would be around 50 pounds too.
I will send some pictures soon

Thanks again, Aimee
