Shitzu Cough?

I Have A nine year old Shitzu female. When she gets overly excited she
starts coughing. A deep dry cough. Rubbing her neck seems to help, and
I have taken her to the vet for heartworm tests. (They came back
negative) Any Ideas?

Has she been dewormed lately? 9 years old shitzu that's a ripe old age for one of them. Your vet must have more to say than she tested negative for heartworm! dogs with worms will cough or gag. Take a look before you scoop the poop
