For years we thought our 7 year old yellow lab had flea bite allergy.
Aggressive measures kept the fleas down, but not off, especially in summer when we spend a lot of time at a beach area. He broke out in oozing hot spots that are fairly easy to control with tea tree oil, but this good-natured dog must have been in misery all this time. The old vet retired and we had to get a new one. He suspects fleas may still be part of the problem(since he's been on Capstar I haven't seen a flea dead or alive on him, and I comb him every day) but also thinks that pollen and grass-type allergies are the major cause of his symptoms, one of which are black patches and spots on his belly and underarm area. Has anyone else experienced these, and do they go away with treatment or will he always have them? TIA Lybbe |
