My wife and I adopted a Yorkshire Terrier today from the local animal
shelter. Odd thing is, he doesn't look like those I've seen on the net tonight. He weighs about 12-14 pounds for one thing and is . His color doesn't seem like those I've seen tonight either. The hair on his back seems almost silver in the bright light, but appears to have a bit of black in it when the light is dim, the rest of him is a blonde color. His vet records do state though that he is a Yorkshire Terrier. He stands about 14" tall. I did take a look at the Yorkshire Terrier FAQ and it did mention that pet Yorkies are a bit larger than those for show. Can I assume then that is what he is? -- Chris RLU 283774 Mandriva 10.1 Official 21:42:44 up 7 days, 1:04, 1 user, load average: 0.70, 0.44, 0.38 |

Maybe they mistook an Australian Terrier for a Yorkie:

That turns into a blondish color on his legs and feet. If my son didn't have my camera I'd send a picture tonight. That will have to wait probably until Monday though. -- Chris RLU 283774 Mandriva 10.1 Official 19:22:50 up 7 days, 22:44, 1 user, load average: 0.16, 0.30, 0.37 |

This is a non-binary newsgroup so many news servers will filter it. Other servers will only retain it for hours. Some ISP's servers will even remove your posting privileges. A good rule of thumb is that if the group's name doesn't have the words binaries or pictures in it, don't post pictures to it. Post it to alt.binaries.pictures.animals and let us know what the subject line is. -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

Thanks Rocky, I posted it under the subject "Large Yorkshire Terrier" To begin with, the poster in the binaries group who assumed that there are different sizes, as with Poodles, was wrong. Sure, there's going to be some variance outside the breed standard which, in Yorkshire Terries is 7 pounds, but there's only one general size: Small (heh). BTW, further to that post, there's no such thing as "teacup" size in any breed - that's just a sales ploy of bad breeders. As to the pictu I'd never have guessed Yorkie, at least not purebred. But if yours is half as nice-looking as the dog in the picture (I love the Benji look) and he's got the personality you want, I think you found yourself a winner. -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

I found another picture of what I assume he will look like when his coat grows out on google/images. He was clipped pretty short for the Texas summer. He's definately stolen our hearts, his previous owner worked all day were told and she gave him up because he kept running away. Since my wife doesn't work he's become terribly spoiled since last Thursday when we adopted him. He even gets along great with our three cats. -- Chris RLU 283774 Mandriva 10.1 Official 22:11:50 up 9 days, 1:33, 1 user, load average: 0.82, 0.72, 0.47 |

I saw a calendar entitled Teacup Chihuahuas right there with all the other breed calendars so it must be a real breed distinction. The same method proves beyond doubt that labradoodles and schnoodles are distinct breeds. So there! Shows what you know! -- Paula "Anyway, other people are weird, but sometimes they have candy, so it's best to try to get along with them." Joe Bay |
