Our question for the collective brain is: how important is it for the new
owners (us) to see the two puppies and choose them? Is it ok if the breeder
chooses a puppy for us?
If the breeder understands you, your lifestyle, your
requirements, and so on, it's probably better than if you
choose yourself. The breeder knows the puppies and knows
which one is a little more active, which one is a little
more assertive, which one is a little more shy, and so on.
By no means are all dogs interchangeable but I think it's
pretty much a given that you're going to fall in love with
whichever puppy you take home. My inclination would be to
have the breeder choose the puppy and then have you meet
them both to make sure that you're comfortable with it.
How important is the generally accepted 8 weeks old
timeline?
Personally, I would prefer not to take a puppy younger than
10 weeks, myself. The socialization they receive from each
other and from their mother is irreplaceable.
