That's really something to be proud of! I saw a Vizsla working in the field for the first time this weekend - it was a sight to behold. If I ever, ever wondered whether the versatile upland breeds were for me, I have my answer: No way, no *way* could I live with that much energy bottled up in a dog in my house. I shall admire them from afar. Congratulations again, -- Kate and Storm and Hamish the FCRs |

Once you're in, you're hooked ![]() I can't imagine not having that much energy flying around - and its catching ![]() I'm a million times fitter, happier and healthier since Cindy came home. I'm also a lot greyer, mind ![]() Big congratulations to Natalie. I keep dreaming of a long hair weim or a vizsla as a second dog, but that would be way, way too much for me given our present circumstances. Maybe if those lottery numbers come in and I can afford a larger house with a secure garden... Diana -- Cindy the weimaraner's web site: http://cindy-incidentally.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk |

Ramses the Vizsla would cheer you on, too, but he's busy playing with Shakira, the exploding diahrea Rodesian Ridgeback. I'me really liking this Vizsla, are they all so pleasant (albeit needy)? -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

But wonderfully soft dogs. No off switch for exercise! I desperately wanted one when he was younger. natalie -- One thing about the past. It's likely to last. -- Ogden Nash |

Their brains just decide, ok, no more learning for me now. And they make stupid mistakes. I have some articles about Vs and agility if you're truly interested in having one. Buoy can go for about 40 minutes before he starts to shut down, and that's it for the day, pretty much. I am working Buoy in agility right now, and he adores it. He just makes stupid mistakes after 40 minutes, so we just keep the lessons to a half hour. Let me know if you want to mail me privately about it. natalie -- One thing about the past. Let me know if you want to mail me privately about it. Okay, no offense at all intended, but are you working him a solid 40 minutes in agility? That's a long time as far as I'm concerned. I very rarely work more than 10 minutes or so. I think the longest I have ever gone is maybe a half hour, and that's with lots of play in there. When I was working weaves, I'd go to the building, do 1 or 2 reps, and leave. Right now we're without a regular training building and have 2 hours on Tuesday nights. I'm done, including waiting for a turn on equipment, within 15 or 20 minutes. A few direction commands, some contact work, jump chute, weaves. Done. I have found, especially for agility, that very SHORT training periods at a high intensity is far better than longer training periods. Agility is so strenuous both mentally and physically that you can wear a dog out pretty darn fast. |
