Dear Friend of ALL Dogs,
Subject: Helping The Bull Breeds
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Please let me
introduce myself. My name is Diane Jessup. I am the author of The Dog
Who Spoke With Gods, a novel which speaks out against cruelty to
animals. The Dog Who Spoke With Gods was honored by the Dog Writers
Association of America when it received the Merial Human-Animal Bond
award. I was thrilled when this book won the acclaim of such authors
as James Ellroy, Iris Johansen, Luanne Rice, Catherine Clyne of Satya
and Tami Hoag. It has been published and done well in the US, Japan,
Russia, The Netherlands and the Czech Republic. One of the most
important reasons I was so pleased with the positive reception this
book received was because the "hero" was an American pit bull.
Anyone who has worked in animal training, rescue or animal welfare – I
myself have been an animal control officer the past eighteen years –
is aware of the tragic situation facing the pit bull, American
Staffordshire, Staffordshire bull and related breeds. From being the
proud symbol of American and United Kingdom courage and pride, from
being considered as "nanny dogs" for their gentle love of children,
these breeds have become so reduced in stature – due entirely to their
exploitation by criminals and misinformation often given out by some
"professionals"– as to now find themselves the most misunderstood dog
breeds in existence. Sadly, even some "humane" organizations and
publications have joined this disgraceful "witch hunt." It is not
uncommon to find reference to "locking jaws," unnatural strength,
viciousness and inherent aggression to humans, as if it were fact
instead of fiction. Some few "humane" organizations, unfortunately
with the ability to spread their ignorance and in some cases plain
antipathy toward the bull breeds, in a wide fashion, have caused
untold innocent dogs (and their owners) to suffer, and in the case of
the dogs, untold agony and death. We find it shocking that "dog
lovers" can turn their backs on animals which are without doubt the
most victimized in today's society.
Anyone who has spent time with a sound representative of any of the
bull breeds knows there is no finer animal, no more joyful, loyal and
intelligent life companion. Certainly they are not the dog for every
home nor is every bulldog coming through the sheltering situation a
sound representative of the breed. However, the stigma attached to the
bull breeds, the ignorance and fear, continue to make the dog
attractive to the criminal element. This means finding responsible
homes for adoptable bull breeds continues to be difficult. As an
animal control officer, I saw a desperate need to get accurate,
positive, TRUTHFUL information about the bull breeds to the public,
the sheltering community, rescuers and trainers. Fully Bully Magazine
offers professional information on training, housing, feeding,
management and more. We think it will help you or someone you know who
owns and loves a bull breed dog.
To this end I have launched a new bi-monthly publication, Fully Bully
Magazine, which presents helpful and - most importantly – accurate
information on all aspects of the pit bull, Am Staff and Staffie bull.
Fully Bully Magazine provides useable information for rescuers,
adopters, trainers, caretakers, animal welfare and control workers –
anyone interested in increasing their knowledge about the bull breeds.
I encourage you to take the time to visit our site at
www.fullybully.com, and for additional information the related site
www.workingpitbull.com. We are a rescue orientated publication, and
offer extremely reduced advertising rates for organizations wishing to
feature adoptable bull breeds. We also offer extremely reasonable
rates for those wishing to advertise their training services. Our only
goal is to fight prejudice directed at these fine dogs, and to help
educate those who wish to know the TRUTH. Proceeds from the sale of
the magazine and advertising is used to purchase and send copies to
those organizations, jurisdictions, and individuals we feel have an
urgent need for truthful education.
Thank you for your time. Please consider visiting
www.fullybully.com
and taking a look at what we are accomplishing. I'm proud to present
this resource to anyone who, like myself, is horrified at what
ignorance, greed and prejudice have done to these wonderful dogs, so
often overlooked when empathy is needed most. Please consider adding
Fully Bully Magazine to your learning resource center.
Sincerely,
Diane Jessup
