"Whip CrEam_n_ Macar0ni_n_ ChEEzE" wrote there's going to be a price to pay. Look on the web for http://www.glycoflex.com/home.php. No I don't work for them or anything like that. I'm just trying to save you & Sasha from alot of grief down the road. Check things out online. Don't take my word for it ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks for the heads up on Metacam. I know Rimadyl works very well for HD pain, from all I've read. But as with other meds, it has a downside, bad on the liver. I guess when it gets to the point that it WILL help your dog, and none of the other stuff does, it's worth it. Rudy will be 14 on Valentine's Day, (hence the name, Rudy Valentino g), but he's been x-rayed a few times, no HD at all, but he is developing arthritis. And since I know myself, firsthand, what it's like to feel that pain, I do want to help my fave little, (golden retreiver), buddy feel his best. ![]() Right now, and for the past 5 or more years he's been on Gluco-C, from Foster's and Smith or any other brand. I do NOTNOTNOT pay extra for the chondroitin, never have........never will, as I've tried it, with absolutely no help. Neither did many others who have arthritis, when it was first touted. ALL, (about 7-8 orthopaedics, and 4 primary care docs..had so many because of moves around the country), they ALL say don't bother with the chondroitin, it is worth nothing in availing your pets, or ppl, with arthritis, and it makes the cost of the glucosamine, if mixed, much higher. I know I may be in a place in the next few years to have to make the decision with Rudy, on whether or not to send him on. ![]() However, some wise person on the dog groups here on USENET wrote this a long time ago, and I do know it helped when we had to put down our little mix, Haggie, 9 yo (we think, we rescued her.) "Euthanasia is the greatest gift you can give your beloved companion when the time comes. You take away their pain and make it you own." I also have an 8 yo lab gal that her x-rays have shown *literally* NO balls on the ends of her femurs to fit in her hip sockets!! Every vet that has seen her x-rays have all told me that if they didn't know it was her x-rays, they would swear she could not walk, and would haave to drag her rear legs behind her. She only shows pain once in a great while, and maybe then it's a couple of aspirin for a day or two, max, and she's fine. I have to try and keep her from overdoing things, all the time. Except for swimming which she is quite happy to oblige. ![]() She flies everywhere she goes, and now that I'm thinking about it, she hasn't needed aspirin for over a year now. I know it will cause her pain as she ages, but as long as I keep them on glucosamine, they are fine, happy playful dogs. I know it is definitely the glucosamine as I've run out for perhaps a month at a time, over the years and they showed pain, but a month back on the gluccosamine, again WITHOUT the chondroitin, ever, ond they're back to themselves again. So far all I've used is that and the occasional aspirin for any evident pain. Good luck with your gal )MaryBeth, Rudy, Ceilidh, Zack and the kitties, Hannah and Piper~ |
