Default Need (desire) dog carrier for rear of bicylce....

Regarding this:
http://www.monstermarketplace.com/Sp...g2511a702.html and
this: http://www.catsplay.com/pego_jetbike.php3 and perhaps this
http://www.snoozer-dog-beds.com/bike2.htm

...I was looking for a combination that would allow me to have
1. a secure bike rack on rear of bicycle to carry 28 pound dog. Not
sure which one would be good. So many to choose from.
2. A decent carrying bag or case or crate for dog that can securely
fit to back of bike.

Sounds stupid I know but dog used to run/walk fast while I rode my bike
a short distance but she is now is getting older (10 years old-28
pounds) and having a hard time. But she likes the outdoors.

Any ideas?

Thanks

How about one of the little trailers that people use to put little kids
in. Would that work?

Thanks. I thought about that and they sell that, but I think that is a
bit extreme and while I love my dog, I do not want to be looked at like
a chauffeur or someone that carries their dog on their arm ...

Thanks
Patty

Are you *sure* you want to put your dog in a crate up on a rack? I
use trailers for transporting and exercising dogs and that works
well. The dogs can easily get in and out and it's a good place to
attach a tug line for when they're running.

Trailers are also nice because they (ideally) stay upright even
when the bike goes down and they can easily haul lots of other
stuff (water, dish, poop bags, jacket, ...). My dogs seem to
really enjoy sitting in the trailer with an open view of the road
(except for yesterday when there were some fresh asphalt patches
on our route!).

The Burley Cub in those photos is especially nice for dogs because
it has a hard floor but I also have a Trek.

It has a soft floor but it folds more (which makes transporting it
a bit easier). She soft floor still works for the dogs (with a
bit of padding). There's a good chance you'll find such a used
trailer for sale in your neighborhood.

Sounds stupid I know

Not to me.

Grazie (the Chow/Samoyed with the carting harness in the photo),
at 11 years, doesn't keep up with the foster dogs we handle for
very long but she can easily do a mile here and there. She's
great about jumping in and out of the trailer when I decide she's
tired or we get into traffic. I just yell "in" or "off" and she's
there. Stopping to get her in and out of a crate sounds like a
drag.

If a bulky two-wheel trailer is too much for you, consider a BOB.

Grazie rides on mine. It takes a lot of concentration because she
leans just the wrong way (to get a better view) and that throws
the bike around. With a dog half her size I doubt it would be
much of a problem though. It would be easy to line the BOB's
frame with some plastic sheeting and make a decent bed. A neck
line could keep your dog in it.

Enjoy your rides!
