im wondering if its the only type of dogs youve owned. ever have a friend
or neighbor with one? they are the worst if looked at from that aspect. sometimes they get real snappy too, and bite their owners. terrible dog if you ask me. I love the one i had when i was a kid though, and had another when a teen, he bit my friend, my first one killed my neioghbors small dogs frequently. their bark kills too! and they are very agressive to intruders, not necessarrily a good trait. German Shepherds are very intelligent and VERY loyal to their families. It is especially important to make certain the GSD (German Shepherd Dog) is well socialized as a pup, preferable before 12 weeks old. Also, temperament is a trait that has been bred along with the dogs so it is important to get your pup from a reputable breeder. All to often, "puppy mills" will breed just about anything to make a profit and this is how you end up w/ a dog like the one you are describing. ~Mort |

yeah, maybe thats teh trick. I probabyl have been exposed to too many pound
puppies that people have rescued, and seen the ones that werent socialized properly. Ill give you that. thanks for pointing that out, becusae i know there are very good traits in German shepards... although i think their intelligence PAILS in comparison to a malamute, as far as the ability to reason on a human intelligence level. Yes Shepards are highly intelligent, but they will also jump off a cliff after a tennis ball if you tossed it that way, and they would jump off a cliff if you told them to also. Obedience to the death is not exactly as intelligent as a Malamute that would look at me and say, "your crazy" and go the other way once it realized my intentions. In other words, theres a line to draw when it comes to loyalty, and Shepards are trained as slaves to listen to every command, unfortunately, and its become a genetic trait, thats one of the main pillars as to why they make such good guard dogs. You can train them to eat a person in half, and at the same time, you can train them down to the millimeter that the tooth bites into the skin. A Mal can and never will be trained this kind of behaviour, it would be extremely dangerous for dog and man alike. So, im sorry on ending this on this type of controversial note, you were so noble on your diplomatic response. I think i am just siezing an opportunity to compare the intelligence between a Mal and a GSH, which is something i do regularly when discussing the intelligence of a Malamute to people. I use the GSH as a comparison usually due to the GSH's high intelligence. Its just another type of Intelligece, a supreme dog intelligence, where as a Malamute and likewise, a Wolf, maintain a very human like spiritual intelligence. Hope this doens't strike off a biased debate, rather an acknowledgement of these traits. Mind you, in my time I have had 3 German Shepards, one was half Coyote, and 2 pure bred Malamutes, a half Mal/Husky, 5 Huskies, a 45% Timber Mal,. and raised about 12 - 22% Timber Mals. So That would explain my bias towards the more wild breeds. I have been bitten multiple times by one of the Shepards that i rescued, bitten by another shepard, and almost bitten by 2 others. I have been bitten by a Husky too. Those bites were undeserving and no reason for them. No threatening posture, etc.. I have been bitten by Rajah, my Malamute once, and i deserved it, i was yanking to go in one direction, he wanted to go another direction. It was a big Gee-Haw mixup! He crunched my hand, i didnt scold him. My hand was bleeding and crushed across the palm slightly. I let my hand drag by my side bleeding as i sledded home. I know he didnt mean it, and that i asked for it, it was him saying "quit pulling on my fur mother, i have already ran 10 miles, and i want to go home this way, my way, not that way" hehe. And the same thing happened with my other 22% Timber Mal, i was yanking on the rump fur to stop her from bolting, but it was because she was in a fight with my other dog. SO she was forgiven instantly, and another bit slightly bleeding sore palm. hehe. The shepards did the same thing, just that they were unprovoked. "Mort" wrote in message t...
