Please research all medicines your vet. prescribes BEFORE giving them to
your dog. Go into senior dog project for a lot of information. There are MANY alternatives to what they are so free to hand out. Pfizer was sued by the many people who lost their beloved pets due to Rimadyl. They took their commercial off the air because the FDA told them they had to disclose that your dog could die from taking this drug if they had their commercial on t.v. so of course you'll never see that commercial again. Be very very careful. The vets. get kick backs from some of their pharmaceutical companies - free trips, free computers, etc. etc. before going on rimadyl be sure to get a blood test before giving the medicine, then watch your dog very closely - any difference get them off, however note that some dogs died the very day they were given rimadyl. many many alternatives out there. there's no excuse for this. |

Rimadyl is not for every dog and should be accompanied by periodic liver
function testing. That said, it has kept my cancer dog pain-free for over a year now. For us, it has been a God-send... -- Ruth, Greta, Woody & Thelma |

Rimadyl has helped literally millions of dogs. No, it's not for every dog and can have some very bad consequences, especially in labs. But it kept my dog alive for 7 years post Wobblers diagnosis--pain free and better able to function. She was given rimadyl every single day of those 7 years with no adverse affects whatsoever. |

I have three dogs on Previcox (new generation NSAID), just switched from Deramaxx. If it weren't for these drugs, all three dogs would be in a lot of pain, one of them enough that he'd have had to be put down some time ago, although he still gets a lot of enjoyment from life. There are *no* other alternatives for these dogs. And I'm quite sure my vet hasn't gotten a free vacation or computer from the manufactuere. Mustang Sally |

I'll second Ruth on this, these drugs are life savers for some dogs when
nothing else will work. If it wasn't for Rimadyl then Deramaxx later on my dog Barney would not have had a comfortable 5 years pain free from this arthritis. Barney had arthritis severe enough that with out the pain medication he could barely walk 10 feet with out collapsing from the pain. I knew all the risk well before starting any prescription medication for him. It was a choice of keeping him comfortable and watching for signs of problems if the came over putting him down. wrote in message oups.com... I got on the Internet today and was alarmed at how much negative information I found about Rimadyl. It seems like there are a lot of stories about dogs dying on the pills, but is any of that hype to be believed? ........Yes, dogs went into liver failure and died and because of that *hype* you should now be handed an information sheet concerning blood tests to check that Rimadyl is not having bad side effects. buglady take out the dog before replying |
