we don't use the valium but we do use the ice pack on the 14/15
vertebrae when he starts panting ( telling sign for us that he's going to have seizures ) we only live 10 mins from the Vet and i have his cell # to call 24/7 its impossiable to use rectal valium during the seizures. and by the time its over hes given so much phb that adding another drug only adds to the problem. it takes 24/48 hrs for him to return to normal from the drugs. |

weight added to his health issues ( hes a rescue and came to us over weight ) i have him on a weight loss/liver cleansing home cooked diet of chicken breast, carrots, greenbeans, celery, peppers.or squash which has brought him down to 20lbs from 38. hes gets raw peppers or broccli as treats. hes also a diabetic so its a good diet for his sugar |

"jen lynn" wrote in message ... we don't use the valium but we do use the ice pack on the 14/15 vertebrae when he starts panting ( telling sign for us that he's going to have seizures ) Occasionally applying gentle pressure over a dog's closed eyes can abort a seizure if you recognize the signs of an oncoming seizure. Use of Ocular Compression to Induce Vagal Stimulation and Aid in Controlling Seizures in Seven Dogs John Speciale, DVM & Jody E. Stahlbrodt, BS Ocular compression (OC) was used to treat 7 dogs with seizures. Treatment was accomplished by use of digital pressure applied to one or both eyes by veterinarians, hospital staff, or owners. The OC was believed to exert an effect through stimulation of the vagus nerve. Use of OC appeared to be efficacious for aborting seizures in 3 dogs, decreasing heart rate and causing muscle relaxation in 1 dog, and preventing onset of seizures in 2 other dogs. In 1 dog, rhythmic application of OC caused onset of rhythmic facial twitches. Administration of OC may be beneficial in treating seizuring dogs. (Author Abstract) |
